Open Question: I was unemployed for 2009 and have less than 1000 in income, do I need to file a tax return?

I held a job for 8 years paying taxes and like alot of americans lost my job in 2008. Got another job in which the company failed. I have a job now but got it in december of 2009. How do I handle my tax filing with the IRS as I was not on unemployment ever and lived with family.
