Open Question: What should I say and do when I drop off a job application?

I'm 19 and tomorrow I am going to go look for a job at a few retail stores, fast food restaurants and other restaurants. I made a resume and had a few questions. 1. Do I even need a resume? If so do I turn it in when I submit my application? 2. What should I say to the hiring manager when I submit my resume? 3. When should I follow up with them?
