Open Question: I'm moving out and my roommates are remaining. How do I get my deposit?

I'm moving out and my roommates are remaining. It was the same situation when I moved in (same remaining 2 roommates.) I never entered an agreement for a deposit with the landlords. I paid the previous occupant based on verbal agreement with the current roommates. How can I get my deposit money back when I move out?
